Q: What are the new policies implemented by BCBSTX?

A:  On April 10, 2020, BCBSTX announced that they will be waiving member cost-sharing related to treatment for COVID-19. This includes deductibles, co-payments and coinsurance.  The waiver applies to costs associated with COVID-19 treatment at in-network facilities and treatment for out-of-network emergencies.

Q: Is testing covered under “treatment for COVID-19”?

A:  Yes, testing and testing-related visits are covered under this policy. Testing and testing-related visits must be medically necessary, consistent with CDC guidance and at the direction of a doctor.

Q: How do I know if this waiver applies to my insurance plan? 

A:  If you have insurance through USOSM, this policy applies to you. It also applies to BCBSTX members with individual and family plans, Medicare (excluding Part D plans), Medicare Supplement and Medicaid.

Q: When does this policy come into effect?

A:  This policy is effective for treatment received April 1, 2020 through May 31, 2020.  The end date of the policy will be reevaluated as the pandemic continues to unfold.

Q: Are there any new policies related to prescriptions?

A:  Yes, BCBSTX has temporarily lifted restrictions on early refills. Pharmacists have approval to provide an early fill on most medications. Contact your pharmacy and ask for an early fill and discuss any delivery options they provide.
