Surgeon Spotlight – Andrew Megison, DDS, MD

Andrew Megison, DDS, MD, is a surgeon with the Center for Oral Facial & Implant Surgery, a USOSM partner practice with locations in Chattanooga and Cleveland, Tenn., as well as Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.

The youngest of three, Dr. Megison grew up in a family of physicians. His father is a neurosurgeon, his brothers are surgeons, and even his aunts and uncles are surgeons. With all those doctors in the family, you could say medicine is in his blood.

“I was always drawn to medicine. I remember I used to listen to my dad and my uncles and aunts as they talked about various health conditions and cases – it’s like they had their own language. Medicine was always a big part of our family life. It’s what I know and what I was meant to do,” notes Dr. Megison. “I’ve always been passionate about healthcare, about helping people in need.”

A native of Chattanooga, Dr. Megison attended Baylor School before heading to Louisiana State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology. While there, he shadowed an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and found his oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) calling. He earned his dental degree from the LSU School of Dentistry and his medical degree from LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans, where he also completed a one-year general surgery internship and a six-year OMS residency.

“One of the things I love about OMS is that I can help all kinds of people from all different walks of life. I like that I can treat a six-month-old and a 99-year-old in the same day,” adds Dr. Megison. “I like helping people improve their health and to feel good about themselves.”

A diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Megison has extensive training in the full scope of OMS treatments and is particularly skilled in orthognathic surgery and facial trauma reconstruction.
