IRVING, TEXAS – 6/4/2019. The San Antonio District Dental Society has named Dr. Wendell A. “Wedge” Edgin, DDS, as its new president. He will serve a one-year term, effective May 2019 through May 2020.

Dr. Edgin is the managing partner of Alamo Maxillofacial Surgical Associates, a partner practice with U.S. Oral Surgery Management (USOSM). Dr. Edgin performs surgeries for patients out of the practice’s San Antonio and Boerne, Texas, locations. Additionally, he is the secretary of the USOSM Clinical Governance Board and a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.

Dr. Edgin has 29 years of experience as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He has written and lectured extensively on a wide variety of oral and maxillofacial surgery topics and is a member of several professional organizations, where he has served in a number of leadership roles. He has been actively involved as a member of the San Antonio District Dental Society for several years, where he has served as treasurer, vice president and president-elect.

He also was an associate professor at UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry and is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel. At the culmination of his 21-year military career, Dr. Edgin served as the department chair and director of the graduate oral and maxillofacial surgery program at Wilford Hall U.S. Air Force Medical Center. In addition, he was the oral and maxillofacial surgery consultant to the Surgeon General.

Founded in 1913, the San Antonio District Dental Society is the premier dental resource for dentists and dental patients in the greater San Antonio area. It has approximately 950 members and is affiliated with both the Texas Dental Association and the American Dental Association. The San Antonio District Dental Society promotes the art and science of dentistry, educates the public on oral health issues and provides support for the profession.
